About
One similarity shared among the vastly different religions of the world is this: almost everyone believes something about Jesus.
He is recognized and revered as Lord and God.
He is historically not accepted as the Messiah.
He is highly regarded strictly as a prophet.
In Buddhism and Hinduism, He is viewed as a wise teacher, guru, or enlightened figure.
Despite the deep differences between these belief systems, Jesus remains a central figure whom none of them can completely ignore. So this leaves us with one unavoidable question:
Not only has this question shaped personal faith, but it has also shaped the course of human history itself. Entire nations have risen and fallen based on how this question was answered. Conflicts, divisions, reformations, public murders and martyres, and even wars have been influenced by differing beliefs concerning His identity.
No other figure in history has influenced the world so profoundly that the answer to His identity has affected politics, cultures, civilizations and generations of human thought.
In the 21st century, is it possible to find factual common ground upon which people of different religious and philosophical backgrounds can stand together to seek a well grounded and balanced answer to this question? Can conversations about Jesus be logical, respectful, and peaceable in our modern world?
This is what The Jesus Study is all about.
Our desire is to bring people together in an honest pursuit of understanding, to examine the historical claims, religious texts, and beliefs surrounding Jesus with openness, thoughtful questioning, and mutual respect. Through careful study and sincere dialogue, we seek to discover a balanced and reasonable answer to the question "Who is Jesus?"
